In the gardening community, native plants are often celebrated for their environmental benefits, yet many gardeners encounter significant challenges when trying to incorporate them into their landscapes. According to our survey, the most pressing issue is the availability of native plants, with 27.85% of respondents identifying it as their primary challenge. This shortage may be driven by limited commercial production or regional variances in plant availability, highlighting a gap in the market that could be addressed by nurseries and suppliers.
The second most common challenge is a lack of information (17.47%). This indicates a substantial need for more educational resources and guidance on selecting and growing native plants. Gardeners appear to be struggling not just with finding these plants, but also with understanding which species are appropriate for their specific environments.

Cost is another notable barrier, cited by 14.94% of respondents. This suggests that even when native plants are available, their price point may deter some gardeners from making the switch from more readily available, and often cheaper, non-native alternatives.
When we delve into additional challenges faced by gardeners, the issue of availability remains significant, with 26.84% indicating it as a problem in the multiple-choice responses. Similarly, lack of information persists as a key obstacle (26.84%), reinforcing the need for better access to resources. Cultivation difficulties were noted by 21.52% of gardeners, which suggests that even those who succeed in acquiring native plants may struggle to keep them thriving. This could be due to a lack of expertise or the specific requirements of native species, which might differ substantially from those of more commonly grown plants.
